Keep rebuilding Mail mailbox??

My Mail seems to need rebuilding every hour now ? Cleared all old mail. Cleared library. Cleared everything. I can see the messages after one click on the right as normal. After an hour I have to double click on the preview and a new pane opens on the left??
Any ideas? Worked perfect for 3 years.....
