Keep windows from going past edge of screen

Hey, I'm moving from Windows and used to being able to maximize a window. Apparently the only way you can do that in Mac is to manually drag and resize the window, but it's a bit tedious because the window can be dragged off-screen. Is there any way to change that, so the edge of a window can't go past the edge of the display?

Can you click the green button on the top left corner to maximize?
