I would like to keep the iPhone 6s Plus that I purchased last year on the AT&T Next plan. I made the payments necessary to upgrade to the 7 Plus and am now expected to mail AT&T my old phone. I have spoken to AT&T and because I have the new iPhone already, there is no way to pay off the balance on the old one. In fact, they can't even see the balance, I only know what it is by taking the amount financed and subtracting the amount I've paid. This amount is what I will be charged if they don't receive the phone, but apparently, there is no way to be charged (or pay for) the amount now. The best guess is that it will appear on my next bill. This would be ok, but I would also like to get the phone unlocked right now, and of course, that can't be done until my account shows the entire amount of the phone paid.
Has anyone had any similar experience to this that can offer advice on the best way to proceed? If nothing else, maybe pay a third part unlock service, but are they reliable?
