I'm sorry if this is a "dumb", "noob" or "stupid" question but I am a bit worried.

I have a Macbook and that will be going to my mother once my new computer has arrived and well, I wanted to know the best method of keeping my files without having a time machine backup.

I currently have an external hard drive and I already have files on there and do not want to reformat the HD. I also do not want to transfer my files to my new computer, I would want a fresh new machine.

Anyways, I was wondering if I could just copy my library file where it states my name to the external hard drive so then when I need a file I could just search my library as needed? Or will that not work.

Just trying to find the best way to keep all my files on an external HD before wiping my Macbook's HD.

Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.

If you just want the files on an external drive to access just drag them accross.

You could drag accross you home folder if everyhting is in there.
