I’ve had Apple leather cases before and all of the ones that aren’t black start out looking great but then they get dirty. Some people like this and call it a patina and aren’t looking to stop this from happening. That’s fine, but I personally don’t like that look.

Is there any product that can keep or slow the Apple leather case from getting darker? If so that would be really great for my cosmos blue and purple cases.

It sounds like you need to find a different type of leather, or use other materials.

Leather is always going to change with use.

Get the black one if you don’t want it to change visibly. Otherwise, live with it or choose a different material like the silicone cases. I personally went Saddle Brown as I think it ages beautifully.

Leather ages... it will change with time no matter what you treat it with.

You can try some car leather cleaners and conditioners, but I guarantee it won't be the same as new.

I use AMMONYC products and they do great at keeping my leather looking new in my Rover.(cleaner removes the oil from skin and dirt and brings back a nice matte finish...it is only 18months old, but still looks brand new when others I've seen that age don't) But honestly, most products cost about the same as a new case so...

I've got an old leather case that got so beat up and cracked I can't use it anymore. It was the darker brown from the 6 plus, but it is way dark now. I'll try some of the products on it when I get home. Won't be till next weekend.

I bought the taupe and charcoal for my X and love the taupe now, but curious what it will look like with some use. Charcoal I doubt will change much(and looks great).

Wash your hands frequently, avoid using your phone with sweaty hands, don’t get the case wet, etc.

It’s going to be hard to keep it perfect but leather definitely reacts to moisture.

There is not anything practical you can do that I can think of.

I used this Apple Brand leather stain gard. It works wonders on my purses but I haven’t used my saddle brown case yet. I don’t see why it shouldn’t work. I hate the patina look too. Hopefully this will help delay it.

Thanks... It should indeed work knowing it's Apple Brand lol hehe.

I'm worried that spraying it would make it darker immediately, rushing the patina effect.

Do you think that it will dry back to a nice saddle brown finish?

I’ve done three coats on it and it always dried back to the original color. Btw, I’ve used this on the leather on my LV purses and those are light colored leather. It doesn’t darken the leather at all.

Ok I sprayed three layers of Crep, and it dries back to the normal saddle brown color. Thanks.

While I do like the patina effect, I just don't want to get to that point anytime soon =)

Thanks, I have some Crep to try on mine. I was wondering if it would change the color.

Yep, no color change at all.

For those who are wondering about the water/stain repellant spray, one can be purchased from Payless shoe store for $5 bucks or so, or any athletic shoe store.

Applied Brickmore Gard More (cheapest leather sealer I found on amazon) to my purple case. It looks the same so that’s good, but when I wiped it dry a small amount of purple was on the towel. Now the case feels different in a good way. My palms are usually pretty sweaty and I can feel that that is absorbing into the case less so I’m hoping it lasts lingers before turning into a black mess.

I noticed that my leather case’s sides (near the edge along the screen) became a little rough. And I don’t like the feel. Anyone experince this ?

After a month or so of daily use with Crep Protect, the protectant definitely is slowing down the patina effect. Cleaned it today with leather cleaner/conditioner (to remove oil and residue from everyday use) and added another layer of Crep.

....perhaps you need to use one of the darker colours.

I have been using the Cosmos Blue leather case on my iPhone 8 Plus since September and it does not have a patina that I can see (one or two of the corners are a little more shiny than the others due to the way I put it in and out of my pockets but thats all).

Yes, darker colours are definitely the best choice for that matter. I have Apple’s black leather case on an iPad Air 2 for 3 years now and it holds great even though I use it often while cooking for recipes etc.
