Keeping the display brightness the same

Every time I close my MacBook and reopen it the brightness has reset to about 50%.... Is there any way I can stop it from doing that and keep the brightness set up to the same as before I shut it? thanks!

I wish the brightness on these displays worked better. I feel like auto brightness doesn't work nor does leaving it off autobrightness.

I thought I was the only one with this problem. Every time I open my MacBook Pro M1 from sleep, it's set back to 50% brightness. Auto-brightness is off.

same problem on a mbp16.1 running macos10.15.7.

every time the display or the notebook goes to sleep, the brightness falls back to its default setting.
'automatically adjust brightness' is off.
'true tone' is off.
