I use iPhoto 11. There is one thing that irritates me about it, and that is its handling/management of edited images. As far as I can tell, I can only have one version of an edited image. If I want to create more than one edited version (e.g. so that I can have a cropped version in one album and a black and white version in another album), I need to duplicate the original and edit the duplicates. However, iPhoto does not link the duplicates together in any way so there is no convenient way to view all the derivatives of a particular original photo.

I have tried Photoshop elements organiser recently. This has what I think is a wonderful feature for keeping track of edits called version sets. Here, every time you edit a photo it automatically goes into a stack that ties together all derivatives of an original photo. Multiple edits can exist in this stack and each edit can be placed into different albums. This also has the benefit of providing a visual indicator (a little overlay on the photo thumbnail) when browsing the photo library that a photo is part of a set. This touches on another irritation of iPhoto: namely, that when I am browsing the library there is no visual indicator to show at-a-glance whether a photo has been edited.

Are other people irritated by management of edited images in iPhoto?
How do you cope with the limitations?

By the way, even though I like version sets, I have not started using photoshop elements organiser because there are a number of other things that I prefer in iPhoto and there are many aspects of iPhoto that I like a lot. I particularly like how it puts everything into a package, so I don't have to worry about micromanaging folder structure or worry about corrupting the database by accidentally modyfying the folder structure in Explorer.
