I'd really love to do a factory restore on my iPhone xr, it's been running like crap lately and that always seems to do wonders for my iPad..

The thing is.. I have years of workout data in there that I'd like to keep. I like looking back at run time splits to see improvement.

Is there any way to keep that without restoring from a backup, which really just gets me right back to where I'm at now and does nothing to clean the phone off..

Thanks!

If you're intent on doing a fresh install, I don't think there's anything you can do to keep the data on your phone.

However, you could always export your workout information to another service and have it accessed via a website or 3rd party app.

RANT - Health data should definitely be allowed to reside on iCloud. I understand that Apple wants to keep that level of sensitive information off of the internet, but at least allow for the option of the user selecting yeah or nay. Or perhaps, allowing for a fresh install with a custom restore - like restore my iMessages and Health data only. Everything else is fresh.

What services can I export to? Could I import data back from those services? I assume you mean like mapmyrun?

If you're only interested in "running", there's a free service called Smashrun. Making an account is free and there's no charge to use the basic site. If you pay some money, you get the pro features.

I think there might be a way to import data back into Apple Health. I have an app called Healthfit, that has an Import setting that implies that it can import .fit, .tcx, and .gpx files into Apple Health. So I guess if you can get your data off the iPhone, then after resetting the phone, you would get the data into Healthfit, then back into AppleHealth. Might work, might not. I don't know.

I think I heard that if you did an encrypted (re, with password) backup on iTunes, it keeps all of your activity data, awards, monthly awards and stuff. All of your health data. Might want to pursue that idea and see if that will work for ya.

He wants to start with a fresh install, without restoring from a backup, regular or encrypted. AFAIK, there is no way to do a selective restore from an iOS backup. It's all or nothing.

Apple could easily solve this problem by allowing users to store their health data on iCloud, just like you would do with iMessage or Contacts, etc.

Workout data is stored in health database. The health database is part of iCloud now. For good measure, do an encrypted backup, then setup as fresh, and let it load your iCloud data like messages, contacts, and health database. I did this like 6 months ago, no problem. Good luck!
