Keeping Zip files in Download folder not Trash

How do I keep a downloaded .zip file in the Download folder. At the moment my downloaded zip files are opened in the Download folder but the actual .zip file goes into Trash.

You probably use Safari, which has the ability to "Open safe files after downloading", which you can uncheck in Safari > Preferences > General > bottom part.
I also presume, you use Mac OS X 10.7 Lion or OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion, since with Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, even with that option selected, the ZIP files get not put into the Trash.
