Keeps asking me to authenticate things but asks for user name and also I thought Apple Watch was going to authenticate now?

One of the reasons I upgraded was it said that Apple Watch would authenticate when apps and system asked but not only does there seem to be no sign of it but instead of just asking for my password it asks for my username every time so twice as much annoying typing
