This question has been asked several times and in different places, but in a user context completely different from mine: more devices in use, connecting from several locations, etc.
My settings are simpler: I use only one Mac device (a MacBook Air M1 running the latest Ventura as of today 13.2.1), connecting always from the same place, I do not own any other Mac device, nor I use my Apple account on my work devices, which run Linux or Windows. I do not own an iPhone, an iPad or any other device made by Apple. My Apple account is used only on the MacBook Air, stop. One account used on one device connecting from home.
The problem is my Mac keeps asking my Apple password and, let's say once a week, I need to unlock my account, for example answering the security questions, because it gets locked. There is no explanation for this: Apple just says "locked" and does not provide a motivation for it. When my account is not locked, sometimes I need to enter my Apple password just once, sometimes two or three times.
Years ago I used several Apple devices, sharing an Apple account. I have never had these problems.
I cannot understand why:
- why does my account keep getting locked? If the reason is someone or an app trying to access while failing to authenticate, why don't I receive any email warning me of such attempts?
- why do I need to enter my Apple password every time I start the computer? I am not speaking about the authentication needed to use the App Store: I turn on the notebook, run any app, by apple or third party, and, ta da!, please authenticate.
This MacBook Air is managed: there is a Microsoft app claiming to check my Mac and keep it safe (according to my employer).
Is this remote management the reason my account gets locked? What do I need to check to understand why 1) my account gets locked 2) I need to enter my Apple password so often. I cannot find anything in the system logs and it is becoming really frustrating, especially when you need to get things done in a hurry.
