Someone on a thread I can no longer find indicated there was an app on versiontracker that would prevent the audio from going to sleep prior to the rest of the system, thus preventing the annoying pop the first time a sound is played over the speakers for the first time every few minutes. But, KeepSOundAwake is not the name--anyone know what it is? Many thanks in advance!!!

I had heard of such an application but the name eludes me right now  However I think the problem only effected some machines and that Apple fixed the bug in an OS or firmware update. I could be wrong, obviously if your machine is still making the popping sounds.

You might try scanning around at http://www.xlr8yourmac.com I seem to remember they mentioned it a few times a while ago.
