Prog rock legend Keith Emerson, keyboard maestro of Emerson Lake and Palmer has died aged 71. It's been a horrible start to this year in the world of rock music. :(

Just heard the news. 2016 is turning out to be a horrible year for classic rock. Everyday I'm feeling more and more mortal. This sucks big time :(

Re mortality, and feeling mortal, @Mr. McMac, I might take this opportunity to remind you that a great many of the guys (and it was mostly the guys) of that generation were busily burning the candle of life at both ends during their most creative period. And this means that sometimes, they are handed the bill for the spending spree of their lives, and they have little choice but to pay….

There are rumors that he shot himself in the head. I hope this isn't true :(

Agreed.

But there are those for whom the constant thrill of dicing and dining with death becomes….a part of life that they cannot do without.

RIP Keith. Thanks for everything.

One of the greats. There's great keyboard players, then there's great keyboard players whose sound 'pops'. Keith was one of the latter, along with the ability and audacity to create original compositions. ELP's first three, plus Pictures at an Exhibition, have been in my rotation for decades.
