I just open my new 2011 refurbish MBP and immediately got a kenel panic. I had a white MB for 3+ years but never had a kenel panic. Do you know what the problem is?

I have experienced 1 more kenel panic yesterday and 1 more after Lion is installed. Is it possible to tell what the problem is according to the report? There are more to it but i am sure not if it's necessary to post it too.

I would love some help on this. Im having the same problem.

The circumstances keep changing, but today, it crashes when I have an external monitor connected and try to download/save anything from any browser. Close the lid and it seems to be fine. I guess later on today when using photoshop brush It will pop off again. I have also been having kernal panics stand alone - done all the Pvram and safe boots.

Ive been pulling my hair out with this, I can get them so frequently. FResh install, new hards drives and Ram - with or with out usb hardware plugged in.
A fresh 10.6.8 seams to be the most stable.

Completed a number of hardware test, apple network and boot disc - all comes back fine.

Logic board?

Hi KPR. It's very frustrating to have a new computer that kenic panic like no tomorrow! I agreed with you that everything is different situation. I open photoshop and had no kenel panic. I reset the pram too but it's still happening.

First kenel panic: nothing open except network preference (10.6)
Second kenel panic: Just Chrome and MSN open (10.6)
Third, forth, fifth, sixth kenel panic: remote desktop, chrome (flash or html 5) videos and MSN open. (10.7)

Just crashed with the lid closed too. see below.

My MBP does have Kernal panic issues even without an external monitor (Dell U2410) plugged in - but even if it was just when it was plugged in, its designed to work with external monitors.

oops didnt see this post.

Yeah i was thinking chrome had something to do with it. But Safari is just the same my end

Week or so back with a dev copy of Lion, which from the error reports is exactly the same OS version as the one I just bought, I had a kernal panic completely fresh!

I have ruled out hard drives and ram.

Yes, i tried safari and it's the same. I put it in safe mode and it's the same. Reset PRam and still kenel panic.

Can someone please help us?!?!?!:confused::mad:

Try resetting your PRAM, Command + Alt + P + R at startup the moment you press the power button.

Thanks, but we have tried that. still crashing - mines gone about 10 times today. Today its all been about saving files via a internet browser.

Have you done the SMC?

Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.

Just had a PRAM and SMC resetting session. I regret to have to say its still the same.

Always crashes from chrome saving a file, lid up or down, external monitor or not. Safari, lid down seems to work sometimes, but can be the same as chrome - when it does work, click on the button top right to view your downloads - crash.

Plus im always in fear of using spotlight, get info or preview, as these are likely culprits.

Thanks for your suggestion

I had a similar issue with a brand new 2010 17 Mac Book Pro. Come to find out bad image from factory. You either take it to Apple Store have them re image machine (15 min) or reinstall OS (45-50 mins). Mind has worked perfectly since the re image.:)

I had the same problem...

Kernel panic when connected to ACD.
It started in March or so.
Took it into the genius bar and they replaced the logic board.
Worked fine for a few months and started back again this month.
Noticed it mostly when downloading or working in CS5.
Took my laptop and monitor back into the genius bar last week.
Hooked up the monitor and laptop and was able to recreate the problem in the store.
They replaced my logic board again.
So far it is working fine.

edit: i have a 2010 15 inch macbook pro 2.66 GHz Core i7 with 8GB Ram

edit2: oh....and i too thought it had to do with the browser (chrome). stopped using chrome. happened in safari. stopped using safari. happened in firefox. i also did the whole Pram reset to no avail.

edit3: last thing...lol...my kernel panic report had references to the NVDIA video card in it so i think that is why the guy at the genius bar had no issue with replacing the logic board again.

Thanks for you comment. Yes after trying everything it feel, i suspect it is the logic board. My problem is im one month over my warranty - however /I have been having these problems from just 6 months in. All hardware tests kept coming back as ok, and I just thought I was fighting for a replacement $65 hdd not a $1000 logic board. Im still going to give apple a call though - from cambodia!!

After a day of using, there's no kenel panic but i already asked a exchange for this. Let's hope the new refurbish won't have the same problem.

.....

Yeah...I would definitely fight for this one to be replaced as a courtesy. Especially since you have documented issues with it before your apple care ran out and since there is a known recurring issue with these units/graphics cards. I almost missed my second replacement by 3 days but if it had passed I would have raised all kinds of ruckus to get it replaced for free....lol...good luck!
