At my workplace we have hundreds of students that use the mac labs every week. They use them mainly for Logic and Pro Tools. As Many of you know, the files they can make in these applications are huge.
I set up a storage partition on the local hard drive of each mac and put signs up and even had a login message that clearly states to "Store your project files on the storage drive"
When they are done they back it up onto their own media. The problem I have is that last year the students largely ignored me and the startup disks filled up pretty quickly.
Quick note here, we use an AD and OD and are running 10.6. The user accounts are on the AD. My solution was to turn on mobile accounts with workgroup manager, then after logging out for a few hours, the account expires locally and the mac deletes the profile. However a problem has reared its ugly head with Kerberos.
When you log in initially, you have a kerberos ticket which you need to get through our proxy server. If however you log out, the mobile account gets deleted then log back in quickly (which makes them another local profile), you do not get re-issued another ticket automatically. Ticket viewer stays blank.
I messed around a bit, I deleted the ticket manually and logged in and out and I had another one. I logged in and out and back in and its renewed the one I had but if their local profile is deleted, it does not come back. You have to get another one manually.
Any idea why this is happening?
