Sorry for the top post.

Reboot your computer holding down D to start the diagnostic/rescue tool, click on the box which enables an extended check, and let it run - it might take a couple of hours.

That'll test your hardware, including scan the memory for a bad memory module (or faulty memory controller). If there are no errors then one can be pretty confident that the issue is then related to software.

Also, I had a look through the log: Do you have Bluecoat software installed? I've had a look on other forums via google and it appears that it is a crash prone kernel extension, also, have you installed all the latest updates, including the latest firmware updates?

thanks i will try the hardware test in a few. is the log pointing to bluecoat? i had the app cash once an rebooted an its been fine.

Well, it did say:

Kernel loadable modules in backtrace (with dependencies):
com.bluecoat.kext.bckd(2.11.10)@0x75f000->0xa5cfff

BSD process name corresponding to current thread: Safari

I see you have http://www.bluecoat.com/products/k9web - which is causing the problem. Simplest solution, rip it out, it is nothing less than snake oil.

anyone recomened a internet filter, good an free, its a family machine

Leopard :p

Set up an account for you and an account for the children and disable automatic login. Then go to System Preferences > Parental Controls and configure.

ya i just want 1 account on the machine

kids from looking at porn

Unfortunately K9 is the only one I've seen that is free. Pretty much you're left with two choices:

1) Put up with crashes until they fix up the problem

or

2) Talk to your kids and have an open discussion about these issues - assuming they're teens.

Net Nanny is available, however, I've found in the past that it gives alot of false positives; you also might wish to ask your ISP whether they have a special proxy that they provide for family surfing - its not full proof but they tend to work pretty well.

could it take a while untill the fix it?

an would these crashes be pretty unlikely?

Who knows when it will be fixed. Maybe never.

Why are you against multiple user accounts? OS X (or any UNIX OS) was never meant to be used this way. In fact, you are putting your machine at a big risk for your kids screwing it up by only having one account (it's an administrator account, isn't it?). Plus, wouldn't it be nice if you all had your own folders for Music, Pics, Documents, etc?
