Hi All

I picked up a refurbished Mac Mini 2018 (i3, 8gb, 128gb SSS) from a reputable eBay store (based on their 18k reviews) a couple of days ago.

Since booting it up I’ve had non stop issues with Kernal Panics.
There seems to be no pattern to these panics, sometimes occurring at idle, sometimes occurring when running multiple programs.

Ive tried almost everything thus far to diagnose the problem.
- Reinstalled Mac OS Big Sur including latest updates
- Tested the RAM using Rember. Shows no issues
- Run geek bench to check CPU scoring
- Monitored the CPU and RAM usage via activity monitor (everything looks normal)
- Rebooted in safe mode
- Changed keyboard and mouse

Despite all the above I’m still having these kernal panic restarts multiple times a day.
The latest one has just occurred with nothing open other than safari running a YouTube video.

The unit is linked to my monitor via HDMI.

Can anyone share some advice or expertise? I’m very close to sending the unit back.

Cheers

What panics are you getting (top lines of panic report including type of panic, executable which caused the panic?

Never had a panic on my 2018 Mini either. Why not just return it if you can? You shouldn't have to deal with this kind of issue on a newly "refurbished" Mini.

Return it. You should not be experiencing this out-of-the-box (even if it's claimed to be "refurbished").

I'd suggest that if you want "refurbished" you buy a REAL "Apple-refurbished" Mini ... FROM APPLE.
(that's what I did 3 years' back -- doing fine)

Thanks for your responses all.
I have submitted a return request.
In response to HDFan, the panics have all been type 14=page fault, as seen below.

Hopefully the new system will fix the problem. Looks like the CalNCService handles Calendar and other synchronizations.

I’ve learned from my dog - if it works leave it alone. If it doesn’t and you can’t figure it out - return immediately. I’m not getting off Mojave. If I want new, I’ll buy a new mini with a newer OS. I can’t be messing with a broken computer because an upgrade broke all sorts of stuff. It’s probably because I’m too old to bit twiddle anymore …

You may no longer get security updates as of November 2021 based on previous release cycles.
Yup. Trying to find a way to upgrade without messing with my current system so that I can go backward quickly. Buying a new machine seems to be the only guaranteed method ?
