I am getting a kernel panic but only in two very specific circumstances.

The first is if I try to resize the OS X partition of my drive and the second is when I try to boot off the OS X Install DVD.

The kernel panic log looks like this:

panic(cpu 1 caller 0x003ECE52): "A driver releasing a(n) OSArray has corrupted the registry\n"@/SourceCache/xnu/xnu-1228.9.80/libkern/c++/OSObject.cpp:241

Things I did recently that almost certainly caused this problem...

Installed bootcamp with Windows 7 64 bit. Nothing too odd and the Windows partition does work correctly, but it was only sized to 20 GB. After this was all done I wanted to make it bigger so I tried to resize the OS X partition to make some room so I could go into WIndows and grow the NTFS partition. This was when I got the first Kernel Panic. So I tried to repair the drive using the Disk Utility. This had some errors which told me to reboot off the DVD and try to repair the disk. When I try to boot off the DVD I get the kernel panic. SO I am pretty sure I caused this problem, but I am not sure the best way to get rid of it. I can't boot off the DVD so I am not even sure I could reinstall OS X. Any suggestions? I am running Snow Leopard now but have Lion on my other macbook so I was thinking of upgrading this one too in the unlikely possibility it would magically fix the problem. Any chance of that? Thanks in advance to anyone who can offer some suggestions.
