Hi. I was mixing in Garageband and got what I think is called a kernel panic. The screen drops down the semi-transparent curtain (for lack of a better description) and then the message "you need to restart your computer"...

My question is, did Garageband cause this or is it another issue?

My Macbook also locked up the day before this incident. Mouse moved but couldn't click on anything.

Just wondering if the two are related and if so, what the issue could be.

I've had the motherboard replaced 8 months ago.

Thank you for your help!

Lynne

Look if you have kernel log file(s) inside the Log folder in the main Library folder.
If that is invisible click on Go-Go To Folder... in the Menu Bar and type /Library and then hit enter, go to log folder and see if there is a kernel panic log inside, if so you could post back here with the file contents.

Edit: Yes, that was a Kernel Panic.

Thank you. Here is the kernel panic information:

Did you have anything attached to the Mac, looks like USB HD, Memory Card or so, seems like an IO Error.

If it does not happen morre than once every 3-6 months or less I would not worry, most likely a glitch.

I can't remember exactly if I had anything attached, but I don't think so.

Thank you for your help!

Lynne

Just keep an eye on it, if this only happens a few times a year you don't have to worry, these things sometimes happen, if this happens again look what is attached and right away after a restart look at the Logs again, post again if it occurs again, preferably here in this same post.

Hopefully it won't happen again though.

Good luck.
