Howdy Folks:

G5 iMac 17" 1.8 Tiger 1.5g RAM 80gb HD - since warranty expired end of December - I have had issues galore - Transmission 1.01 really messed with my operating system - blah .. blah.

I will like to install a new Hard Drive - 500 G Hitachi Deskstar HDS7250KLA80
and do a fresh install OS X with Ubuntu dual booted next to it

The question: Can I take the existing HD ( 80 gb original) out of the G5 - put it in external case , install the 500gb new HD into G5 machine - and start complete new install of softwares mentioned - OS X Tiger ( machine originally came with Panther - Tiger was an upgrade install - have disc , --- then pull my files off cased 80gb original onto the new fresh installed /upgraded G5 500gb HD

To me seems easier than to back up existing onto a 3rd drive

Your thoughts - experiences?- please to share:

Cheers in advance
