I have been getting kernel panics for months now, I was hoping 10.6.3 would fix but no, if anything it's worse. Happens several times a day. It is a 9 month old MBP 17", unmodified.

The error log is below, I am not clever enough to get much from that, are there any clues in here?

I would really appreciate some advice here...

App causing the crash

Is this always the offending program?

Kernel panics can be a real bitch to diagnose. So first off, good luck.

Second off, I believe BlackViper is correct. You should be very suspicious of BBC iPlayer Desk. Does it use Flash?

Kernel panics can be caused by your hardware. So you should run Disk Utility to make sure your HD is OK.

Also, a bad RAM chip can cause a panic as well. D/L Rember and run its tests on your machine.

Open Console and see if you're getting consistent error messages posted. Console messages can be very obtuse, but you might find out a clue that could lead to a solution.

I noticed that you have a Microsoft Mouse. I have a Microsoft kbd/mouse combo and I get a kernel panic about every week. MS insists it's not their software. Even so, you might a short-term fix is to trash the mouse preferences file.

It should be in the ~/Library/Preferences/ folder. com.microsoft.mouse.pref

mt

Its either the Cisco VPN or MS Intellitype software. Uninstall the drivers for those, should be fine.

Cheers for the ideas guys.

1: BSD process name corresponding to current thread is not always BBC iPlayer, it is variously: kernel_task, natd, iTunes.

2: Have performed memory test and disk test, both check out fine.

3:Have uninstalled both Cisco and Intellimouse, will see how it goes now.

One thing I didn't mention is that, after the kernel panics more often than not Spotlight has to completely re-index the HDD. And when it panicked after the upgrade to 10.6.3 Safari lost all its cookies. Very annoying.

24 Inch iMac 10.5.8 kernel panics all day long!!! Help please!!!

Anybody have any insight for me? I'm not very computer literate but here is the log. I took the iMac to the Apple store and of course it didn't have issues while I was there but as soon as I got home it started again. Also, when it goes to sleep it will not wake back up unless I restart it. Thank you in advance.

Mine's been fine since I uninstalled Cisco and Intellimouse as suggested, so glad of the advice here :)

I've had issues with my time capsule, is it possible that it is the culprit when running time machine?

Looks like your TM drive is corrupt, try repairing with disk utility. If that doesn't help, backup your stuff and reformat the TM drive.

Kernel panics starting again.

MBP panic attacks are starting again after a months lapse (when I took it in and the apple tech could find no issues).
Repaired all permissions using disk utility and this is my second crash in 2 days.
Believe CiJScannerRegister is the culprit, guessing this must be an os x legacy as I've never had a canon scanner.
Activity monitor is showing this in process.
Is the fix to just remove the ap from Library/Image Capture/Support/LegacyDeviceDiscoveryHelpers/CIJScannerRegister.app??
Suggestions welcome.

You should be very suspicious of BBC iPlayer Desk. Does it use Flash?

What sort of question is that? The world is still waiting for the first kernel panic caused by Flash, even on the Mac.

But I can assure you that you will have more luck with Aperture 3 - just browse through your library of RAW photos. As I had to learn today, the kernel panic will come.

Is the fix to just remove the ap from Library/Image Capture/Support/LegacyDeviceDiscoveryHelpers/CIJScannerRegister.app??

Try getting a (64-Bit) Snow Leopard compatible driver for this device. That will probably solve your problem.

MBP 2.16Ghz 10.6.3

Your KP is caused by the same thing as OP's. Remove Cisco VPN software, it should be fine.

No More Issues!

Thanks for the reply Chrysaor! Worked like a charm and haven't had an issue since, hopefully I won't. I had to wipe the time capsule clean and start from scratch but since that, no issues. Thanks again.

Life is hard in the ghetto.
We got kernel panics every day, son!

Pimpin' ain't easy. You gotta bust open Disk Utility now and again.
Repair permissions, and put dem kernels in they place!

Anyone want to try their hand with mine?

Similar to the OP on here, I've been getting kernel panics for months. Sometimes goes several days with no problems. Other times, several crashes in a row. Go to repair permissions, have to do it several times, as it crashes in the middle every time.

Checked all the hardware, everything's apparently good. Different applications cause the panics every time. Most common culprits, though: kernel_task, mds, Safari, Mail.

Here's the most recent crash log. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance:

So I've seen twice in this thread that KPs have been fixed by removing the Cisco VPN software. Does this mean that one cannot use Cisco VPN in SL? I use it all the time on leopard, but am considering buying one of those new shiny MBPs. If I can't connect to our VPN, it's kind of a deal breaker for me.

Update: I have since uninstalled Soundflower (per Peace's suggestion on another thread), as well as Logitech Control Center, which was still on here despite me having no need for it whatsoever. Crossing fingers.

Anyone have any other suggestions of things that might look bad on my report (a couple of posts up)?

Cisco VPN is know to cause KPs on Leopard as well, I know from personal experience.

Ask your organization to create a VPN profile for Snow Leopard as SL can now handle Cisco IPSec.

Update #2:
Well, that didn't work. Things were going fine for awhile, but then yet another panic/crash/grey screen of death while surfing in Safari. Here's that crash log. Any ideas now?
