I'm using a Mid 2014 Retina Macbook Pro that's a year old and has ran like a champ since day one. However since installing El Capitan I've been having kernel panics? This is about the fourth one. At first I thought it could be some incompatible software, but looking at the log, I'm not too sure now.

Does anyone have any clues?

You didn't update your third-party extensions/applications prior to installing El Capitan.

tsk-tsk

1. Unplug any and all USB accessories and then test.

If the issue remains,

2. The "kextunload" process that was involved in this particular crash also suggests that a third-party kernel extension could be causing your issue, or is a contributing factor.

Remove these, or update them if you can:

com.Cycling74.driver.Soundflower 1.5.3 (latest release is 1.6.6b, so you are way behind on this one)
com.spotflux.Spotflux.tun 1.0 (latest version is 2.11.2)

I literally got unto uni this morning with nothing plugged into my laptop and as soon as I raised the lid it KP'd. I will tinker with these tonight and see if it resolves any of these issues.

Problem seems to be resolved thanks!!

It appears this issue hasn't stopped even though I thought I updated all of the drivers and the issue would be resolved. Can someone offer any insight with this issue?

It appears this issue hasn't stopped even though I thought I updated all of the drivers and the issue would be resolved. Can someone offer any insight with this issue?

If you have any USB devices plugged in, remove them and run things for a while to rule them out. Your dump suggests that it's something USB-related causing your problem.

If the crash still happens with all USB devices unplugged, then it's time to start suspecting hardware issue.

If the crash happens with just one USB device plugged in, and runs fine without, then time to suspect that device as the cause.

If you have more than one USB device, then have only one plugged in a time l, and run it long enough to rule it out as a cause, or until it crashes again, letting you know it's the likely cause.

I have the same system as the Seble, mid 2014 Retina. I am downloading this El Capitan as we speak...Can you explain how to do this thing with the extensions please, before I step in a dog pile? Thanks...

You just have to research any third-party apps that you installed and make sure that they have been updated to a release that supports El Capitan.

If you have any that do not currently support El Capitan, then you roll the dice by updating your OS X, keeping your fingers crossed, and having to uninstall any that end up causing problems.

Does this third party include the Apple Store? I get most everything from there. Nothing anywhere else...I've kept my system pretty clean. I had MacKeeper on there, and It was recommended to remove it so I did last week. I've used it for 3 years, and never seemed to have any of the issues so many speak of...

No USB devices plugged in what so ever. This was confirmed today at uni where the thing would crash when nothing was plugged into it after waking from sleep. Does it seem like a trip to the genius bar should happen then? It only happens when waking from sleep. When the laptop is loaded up and in use it's absolutely fine!

I would take it in, yeah. They will most likely do the normal things like repair permissions, and possibly suggesting that reinstall OS X from scratch without restoring a backup, etc. It's their standard stuff they do when they troubleshoot.

You may get somebody that only does a subset of the normal things (ie: Just runs AHT, and repair permissions), before taking things further (repair or replace). Depends on who helps you.

Yes, even ones installed from the "App Store." Check the "App Store" page for those apps, as they usually post notes for their updates there. You'll want to confirm that their notes say things like "added support for El Capitan" or something to that effect. If they don't say anything like that, then they either haven't updated it yet, and will eventually, or have zero plans to update for some reason (ie: might not be needed.) In that case, do your upgrade, but be mindful of those apps in case you have to troubleshoot afterwards, as you may need to remove one or more of them if you have problems.

Create a new account and log in with that, see if the issue still occurs, if not it is connected with SW loaded under your main account.

Worth re-installing El Cap too, just to rule it out, Genius Bar may do that as well but you have the chance to do it without time pressure. You can backup and fresh install, then run to see if you still have the issue before adding any other Apps.

Another side question on El Capitan....What has been the download time for this OS? At this rate mine will take 5 days. A bit crazy wouldn't you say? Is this the norm for it?

My old system the Yosemite only took about 30 minutes...

The App store and iTunes have been having trouble for a few days, I had a download yesterday that went in fits and starts with no interaction from me...eventually it came good.

I already have three recent purchases in the Store. What happens if I cancel, then re-open, and my purchases are gone? I just purchased a three year service contract, I may call them and see if we can troubleshoot this download speed issue, before I screw something up...
