Anybody else getting kernel panics every week? Happens under low load just browing the web. It's getting annoying. Never had a Macbook that was this bad.

Can you see the crash log, it normally shows the culprit. I had plenty of Kernel panics after installing Big Sur, which were due to Cylance software. After uninstalling it no problems anymore.

Yes I kept the logs, but they are a mess. Where should I look?

I don't run any antivirus SW.

In the second 'paragraph' there should be one or more processes that caused the Kernel panic.

This is what I saw:

Kernel Extensions in backtrace:

com.Cylance.CyOpticsMacOSDriver(1.0)[E2BCF4C8-1F52-3A63-B6B6-823198A9C57E]@0xffffff7fa6381000->0xffffff7fa6387fff

Process name corresponding to current thread: spindump

this is the first page of two logs: (after that it just lists loaded extensions)

all three times I was using it standalone. No external monitor. And it wasn't sleeping. I was using it.

For completeness, these are the symptoms:

  • The display will momentarily freeze
  • cooling fans suddenly kick on at full speed for a second
  • black screen saying "you need to restart the computer"
  • computer reboots itself and presents kernel panic report.

In both of your crash logs, the process name that was running at the time of the kernel panic was ‘plugin-container’. I believe this is associated with your web browser, because I have seen that while running Firefox.

I know that doesn’t seem to help much, but if you are using any browser extensions, you might want to try disabling them.

Another idea is to do your browsing with a different browser for a while, and see if you still get crashes.

You could disable one extension at a time and see which one causes the problems. Is there an improvement after installing Firefox 84?

Haven't had a browser panic in a while. So now I have sleep panics for a change!

Code:
panic(cpu 0 caller 0xffffff801f48915a): Sleep transition timed out after 180 seconds while entering darkwake on way to sleep. Suspected bundle: com.apple.iokit.IOUSBHostFamily. Thread 0x6287a.
