sorry, forgot to mention it: the kernel panics are 90% at the login window or a few seconds after the login.

Sounds like it might be an issue with the os root system folder. Have you tried booting from the os installation disk that you got with the machine. Then going to disk utility. Trying a repair permission. That's the first port of call. The second would be reinstall and archive your user folder. :)

Those are the 2 options i'd suggest first off. :)

sorry but i don't think that this is the problem. i have already reinstalled the system 2 times. and the kernel panics are always there...

is it possible that my firewire port is the problem? it seems to be damaged: if i connect a firewire device it writes faster than it reads...and the speed is much slower than a usb 2.0 device. in addition my log shows every 5 seconds this error message:
