I have starting getting this error after installing the latest iTunes update v11.4, loads of people all over the net are having this same issue.

The system extension “/System/Library/Extensions/AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext” was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product’s vendor for an update.

I can just OK the box and carry on, but I would like to stop it, or fix it.

Anybody know what this is and how I can fix this, or just wait for Apple ?

Hello All-

I had the AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext problem when downloading iTunes 11.4. This is a widespread problem, many forums have addressed it.

I found help here: https://www.discussions.apple.com/message/26574841#26574841

See Lanny’s post, I did as he suggested.
1st- Close iTunes.
2nd- Delete the system extension “AppleUSBethernetHost.kext” from here:
//System/Library/Extensions/AppleUSBethernetHost.kext

3rd- go to iTunes 11.4 download, here: https://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
click on the Download Now link.

4th- Find the downloaded iTunes11.4.dmg file, open it, now open the Install iTunes.pkg

After the re-install as above I got the successfully installed window and no “pop up”
improperly installed AppleUSBMultitouch.kext warning window.

Somebody just posted this over on Apple -

I just tried the procedure Rhobes posted and it didn't change anything...
iTunes still will not open/hangs up,
Console shows the following:

9/11/14 10:58:03.000 AM kernel[0]: hfs: unmount initiated on iTunes on device disk1s2

9/11/14 10:58:05.921 AM xpcproxy[836]: assertion failed: 13E28: xpcproxy + 3438 [D559FC96-E6B1-363A-B850-C7AC9734F210]: 0x2

So after reading all over the net the amount of people with the issues above after the new iTunes update nobody but nobody here has or is getting this kext issue ?

Yeah, I got it when the install completed. So far, I can't see any further problems--iTunes seems to work OK. If the message pops up again, I'll try the procedure outlined above.

OK, this morning I went for it and followed your instructions above.

So far so good, I also got the successfully installed window and no “pop up”
improperly installed AppleUSBMultitouch.kext warning window.

Will wait and see what happens after a reboot, cannot do that at the moment as my machine is working on something.

EDIT: Reboot now done and all now seems OK, with no error message appearing, thank you for your information and guidence.

No more Apple updates for me for things I do not require.
