beautiful Twin Cities!
Reposting is gauche, I imagine, but I have added significant info, and nobody is reading my post anymore.

This is what's new in my "Why Can't OS 10.5 Find My Internal Modem?" post:

I have noticed that OS 10.4.11 uses the modem driver named:
AppleSCCSerial (v1.3.0)
Regarding this driver, System Profiler says Valid (Yes), Authentic (Yes), Dependencies (Satisfied), Integrity (Correct).

However 10.5.8 uses the modem driver named:
AppleSCCSerial (v1.3.2)
Regarding this driver, System Profiler says Valid (Yes), Authentic (Yes), Dependencies (Satisfied), "Integrity: Kext has no receipt".

Yes, I have re-installed. Yes, I have Repaired Permissions. Any suggestions?

(The rest of this is old, so you Faithful 600 can probably stop reading now. Thank you, and I apologize for repeating myself. My original post had zero replies, so perhaps I will be allowed to delete it.)

I have two partitions on my Mac. One partition runs OS 10.4.11, and the other partition runs 10.5.8.

The partition that runs 10.4.11 can always find my internal modem and get on-line. The partition that runs 10.5.8 can sometimes find my internal modem and get on-line, but 19 times out of 20, Mac OS 10.5.8 cannot find my internal modem.

On the rare occasion that 10.5 *can* find my internal modem, it stays connected. No problems, after that. It's those other 19 out of 20 times that I'm asking about.

I have searched on-line for a modem driver update: nothing. I have worked with my Network Preferences, and then returned them to Default. I have worked with Network Set-Up Assistant. I have updated my OS 10.5.8 software. I have reinstalled 10.5.8 many times. The good people at the Apple Store can't troubleshoot a modem problem, because they don't have any way to attempt a dial-up connection.

My specs:

Power Mac G4
CPU: PowerPC G4 (2.1)
Speed: 933 MHz
lots of memory

Modem Model: Spring
Interface Type: Serial
Modulation: V.90
SKU Name: UCJ
Hardware Version 7.0F

I have noticed that 10.4.11 uses the modem driver named:
com.apple.driver.AppleSCCSerial (v1.3.0)
Regarding this driver, System Profiler says Valid (Yes), Authentic (Yes), Dependencies (Satisfied), Integrity (Correct).

However 10.5.8 uses the modem driver named:
com.apple.driver.AppleSCCSerial (v1.3.2)
Regarding this driver, System Profiler says Valid (Yes), Authentic (Yes), Dependencies (Satisfied), "Integrity: Kext has no receipt".

I have re-installed OS 10.5 and 10.5.8 many times, and I "Repair Permissions" frequently, but that does not solve my modem problem.

It may also be relevant that, when I install System 10.5, it mis-identifies my internal modem as V.32, rather than V.90. But I fix that in my Network Prefs, and then, sometimes, my computer can get on-line running 10.5.8.

I have very few complaints about 10.5.8. It just can't seem to find my internal modem. Any suggestions Or should I be posting this question in the PowerPC Forum, instead?

In either case, thank you for reading -John
