key failure in Safari

I am using a Macbook air with Mountain lion and safari 6.O.4

When Java Script is enabled, I am unable to type the zero key or the dash key.

for example above when typing safari 6.O.4 I have to use a capital O because the zero won't type. However If I turn off Java script, then it works.

any ideas how I can solve this? It is really a big annoyance.
