I had to send my MB Pro 2017 in for repair today which is covered under Applecare however my concern is the associate at Apple mentioned if there is water damage it will not be covered.

Here is my concern:

- ONE key stopped functioning with the butteryfly effect (Key still works just have to press hard)
- The associate claims he replaced it in the back of the store however the alleged new key still is stuck but works.

To me this seems impossible that water damage would have caused this as there are no other keys that have this issue. I have not spilled water or anything. The associate advised me the entire keyboard would need replacement.

Is this normal or anything to be worried about?

Thanks!

It's a known issue. No one here can tell you definitively if it will be covered under 3year Applecare+ without a deductible, but based on other reports of the same issue occurring while under warranty, it should be covered without an ADH deductible.

Don't know about water damage, but I had double-registering spacebar key and the whole top was replaced. They first tried replacing the key, but the issue was still there, so they just replaced the entire part (keyboard, touch bar, battery, trackpad - everything).

Yes water damage in (on?) a MBP will void the warranty, but as mentioned the 2016 laptops have a reputation of having a poor keyboard (poor in the sense of it failing)
