My problem is very minor though irritating.

When I type for the first time after not using my mac and I use my arrow keys, my will keyboard lock up. The cursor stops blinking and nothing happens for about 3 - 5 seconds.

It happens when I type in online forums, NEO Office, textedit or anything. I've tried Diskwarrior, Techtool Pro 4, and many other maintenance programs.

I've put up with it for over a year since I got my G5 iMac. It's bugging me to no end these days.

Anyone else have this problem or know of a fix?

Maybe your hard drive is spinning down.
Try setting the hard drive to NOT go to sleep.
(I think: System Preferences --> Energy Saver --> somewhere in there)

I had a similar issue when I booted to my iPod (I had OS X installed on it). The iPod, I guess, is very aggressive about putting the hard drive to sleep. (Anyway, it didn't seem like the iPod honored this system setting, but maybe since you are booting off a normal hard drive it will.) Also, with my iPod, if i listened very carefully, I could hear the hard drive spinning up over the 3-5 sec delay, so maybe you could try listening for your hard drive if its audible.
