Is there such thing as a keyboard viewer application or is it just my imagination? I can't find it any where on my Snow Leopard machine.
 
System Preferences > Language & Text > Input Sources > First option > Keyboard & Character Viewer
and on the bottom of the window 'Show input menu in menubar'
