The last few days my keyboard and mouse have stopped functioning at random times on my macbook. I am running snow leopard. I have to shut the lid to put it to sleep and wake it up to get it to respond. Any ideas?

Usually, this means a bad top case, and usually, you don't have to put the machine to get it to come back. It will on its own after 30 seconds or so. This is, of course, under the assumption that the computer keeps running, despite the fact that your keyboard and trackpad have stopped responding. The most obvious way to see this is to change the clock to show seconds as they pass.
