Keyboard and Trackpad Locked Up

I took delivery of my new 13" MacBook (i7 2.8 16GB 512GB) last Thursday. Tonight both the keyboard and trackpad locked up or froze and was completely non-responsive. It was successfully backing up to my 1TB external HD, but I was just unable to move the mouse or type. In the end I waited for the backup to complete and held down the power button and restarted. I'm assuming this isn't normal - is it something I should be concerned about (as in beyond the irritation of having to restart)? Is it likely to happen again? Or was it a fluke event and no-one knows?
