The keyboard and trackpad on my 2015 13 inch MacBook Pro stopped working. I’ve rebooted several times with no luck. I am able to plug in an external keyboard and mouse and get things done with that. I’m thinking of wiping it and reinstalling the OS to see if that fixes it. I have an appointment with the Apple store and if I have to leave it with them, I’d prefer to wipe it first also. My question is, if I wipe it and the keyboard and trackpad still do not work, will it recognize an external keyboard and mouse while wiping and reinstalling the OS, score the actual os is reinstalled?

Thanks.

For things as basic as the keyboard and track pad, I guess it may be more a hardware issue.

Does it seem like the case is bulging? A swelling battery could put pressure in just the right place so as to cause a failure of this sort.

No swelling. I just upgraded to high sierra to see if doing that would make any difference. Nope.

It's possible the connection worked loose. I may not be remembering correctly but I think the keyboard connects through the trackpad.

I had the issue on my mid-2015 15". Replaced battery and everything worked again...

Did we go to system presences and click unclick trackpad and keyboard options?
Run first aid, check firmware, reset pram, fiddle with the gestures in track pad.
Could be something went silly on the update too.
If you have another Mac, pair them in a network, See if the track pad and keyboard work on the other Mac.
Keep us posted

The keyboard has a ribbon to the motherboard, the trackpad had a special connection.

After an upgrade?
