keyboard cover sound issue

i brought just a basic keyboard cover for my MBP Mid 2012 and iv been listening to music and it sounds flat and low and i took off the keyboard cover and the sound was louder and clearer ??? , its like the sound seems to come thru the keyboard area too as there is a noticeable difference , any one else heard of this ??

The speakers point up through the keyboard on the 13" MacBook and MacBook Pro. The 15" model has the dedicated speaker grills on either side of the keyboard.
