Keyboard imprint on MBP 14 screen from using keyboard cover

Hi there,

I have noticed that I get imprints of the keyboard on the MBP 14 screen since last few months. I have got my unit about 6 months ago and I have been using keyboard membrane type of cover which came along with a case of the MBP. I would like know, if this issue happen with any one of you who has used keyboard membrane type of cover. The case which I am using which came with the keyboard cover is this from amazon --

Did anyone of you got keyboard imprint on the screen even when not using any keyboard cover?

I have never used a keyboard cover so I can't help you with that other than to say it is probably very common to have key imprints on your screen since the cover raises the key level where it would make contact when the laptop is closed. Without any keyboard cover the keyboard keys don't come in contact with the screen since the screen is recessed away from the keyboard due to the outer lip of the screen bezel. The imprint is most likely due to skin oils and dirt so maybe just clean the keyboard cover more often and the issue should be minimized.

Even without a cover, if theres any pressure at all on lid ( from putting in a bag or something even ) it's definitely possible for transfer to happen, I tend to get very slight oil transfer to screen certainly.

It is a concern for me, as there is so little space between the keyboard and the display. I am happy not to use the keyboard cover to avoid the imprints. I also feel the sensation I get from the tip of the finger when touching the keys when it does not have cover.

MacBooks have very tight tolerances so things like keyboard membranes and screen protectors are usually a no-go. My wedge shaped MBA would get keyboard imprints most likely due to the shape but I have two new gen MacBooks and they don’t have imprints which I made sure of when buying.

Can I ask, which gen of MacBooks you have which does not have this issue and how you made sure before getting them?

I'm thinking that just about every recent MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, or MacBook may exhibit marks on the display after using a keyboard cover.

There's just not a lot of "space" there any more between the keyboard and the display when the lid is closed...
