I have a 2017 MacBook Pro and for a while now my delete key occasionally gets funky like something is stuck underneath it. Its kind of hit or miss sometimes its fine sometimes no. I have been meaning to take it in, as I have AppleCare coverage until 9/2020, but have been putting it off. Now my F key is screwy. Yesterday if I typed "for" it was coming up "ofr" and if I sit there and hit F over and over it will sometimes just freeze and stop giving me f's. Its weird. Now I am not a perfect person I can't say I have never ever had a crumb on the thing...but I only ever use this computer while I'm in bed and I am real anal about crumbs in the bed so on the rare occasion I eat something crumby in bed I'm super careful. So its just not making a lot off sense. I eat all sorts of stuff near my iMac keyboard and its a tank...lol. Never an issue.

Anyone else have an issue like this? I have a repair scheduled for Tuesday.

The keyboards on the 2016+ MacBook Pro are genuinely terrible and Apple should reconsider their design choice for the 2019 MBP. It's a known issue sadly and I wish they would have done something about it sooner.

My 2016 is currently getting a new keyboard now for the same issue. I’m very careful too with my laptop. I’m thinking selling it cuz I’m gonna be on the hook for a new keyboard once the warranty runs out. Seriously doubt this is the last time I will have issues. I’ve already brought it to Apple twice now. There are tons of people with these issues.

Apple just needs to return to the scissor mechanism keys.

wow well on the good side they should fix it without hesitation but yes iff(!!!) that keyboard fails too I'm gonna have an issue with Apple...these things cost too much...they need to either give a permanent fix or provide free keyboards for the life of the laptop. Only fair...
[doublepost=1552271506][/doublepost]The program says they will fix it for up to 4 years after the purchase date which is a good start but the fact that these things will last for 10+ years...I mean that's why I pay what I pay for them...they really need to just replace the affected computers or guarantee the keyboard for life. Bite the bullet apple.

My Apple care expires in November and I have the keyboard warranty until 2020. My last Macbook lasted 10 years and I retired it because it was too slow by today’s standards. I’m pretty ticked because they are gonna replace it with the same crappy keyboard. I’ve already had two repairs on this laptop that doesn’t get a lot of use. Pretty pathetic.

Am I completely unrealistic to expect that they come up with a more permanent fix for this? I mean basically it is a lemon if every repair results in the same issue. If my iPhone had a recurring issue that their fix didn't solve...they'd replace it. I get that the computer is more expensive but...isn't that what we are paying for? Quality and good customer service?

Completely agree. Unfortunately their “fix” is replacing the keyboards with the same defective keyboards. Terrible design and terrible resolution. I love the thinness of the laptop and I don’t necessarily mind the shortness of the keyboard strokes. But I do mind these reoccurring issues. I think a lot of people are fed up.

God help the "genius" rep I come in contact with on Tuesday. I'm not going to be a happy camper. This is a hell of a way to treat loyal customers who spend this much on devices.

Let’s us know what happens.
I expect all that will happen is that they send it out and fix it with another keyboard that may or may not fail again...based on what I'm reading. I'm not going to be an ******...that;s not my style. I am going to ask some questions though...and if I have to take this thing back again a second time I'm going to start asking for a new MBP. I might not get anywhere but I am going to be the squeakiest wheel they can imagine. I don't like any of what Ive read about this stuff...not any of it. I'm a reasonable person but this company knows they can do better.

You're no more loyal than anyone else who buys the machines.

They're human beings too. Treat them like one, don't be a sourpuss. :p The genius you get likely knows more regarding the apple hardware than you do, anyways. Be nice to them, man.

Unfortunately, a permanent fix will likely come in the form of a redesigned machine with a new keyboard, perhaps taptic. I don't believe we will ever see a permanent fix for current models. Just a replacing of problem prone keyboards with the same generation part that was removed. It will have the exact same chance for failure as the previous part, whatever that percentage may be "A small percentage," which by legal definition can simply mean "minority." A vague term at best.
