I just acquired a Kanga Powerbook. It's running OS9.1.1 and is in really good shape. My Mac knowledge is a little rusty (the last Macs I owned were a Performa 575 and Powerbook 190), so I'm hoping I can get some help with two issues with this Kanga, which are outlined below:

The keyboard does not work except for about 10 seconds after it resumes from sleep mode. After those 10 seconds or so, the keyboard freezes and only the apple, control, option, shift, caps lock, and power keys respond. I've checked the keyboard connections and everything looks good under the keyboard. Could this be a software issue?

Also, I cannot determine how to activate the NIC card and connect to my high speed internet connection. It's an instant-on connection that comes on right away when plugged into my newer machine, but the Kanga will not pull down a valid IP address (just a 169.x.x.x) and the lights on the ethernet port don't light up (assuming there are lights, which I'm not sure of). One thought is that since the NIC and modem use the same port on this machine that I need to disable the modem. How do I make sure this machine is treating that port as ethernet and not a modem port?

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
