Keyboard partially well-illuminated on my 13" MBP

My laptop was fine yesterday as I was using it in a dark room but just right now, I noticed that the illumination on the sides of the keyboard is extremely weak and that the keyboard is only well-illuminated in the middle... what might have caused this ?

Seems like only some of the backlight is illuminating. Take it in for service.

Time for AppleCare, mate. Seriously, take it in for service as this is clearly an issue.
