Keyboard Problem Logging Into WIndows Through Remote Desktop

I have a macbook at home and have to log into my windows xp pc at work through remote desktop. I use Firefox to log in into citrix and then log in to my pc through remote desktop. The keys on the keboard are all screwed up once I am into xp. Letters and numbers work fine, but shift, caps lock, ctrl, alt don't work. I need to be able to capitalize letters and get to the symbols on the number keys. Does anyone know how to make this work?
