My keyboard just stopped working, it had a long life, but it now time to say goodbye.

I have a MBP Mid-2015. Will the new keyboards work with this model?

What is special about the Magic keyboard with Touch ID. Do I want to spend the extra money for it?

The keyboard is very nice but the TouchID only works with M1 Macs. I got the numeric pad version with my iMac and the TouchID is very handy. Not as good as FaceID would have been but it's a start.

@glenthompson I am sorry for my ignorance but what is TouchID? I do plan on buying a new MBP in the next couple of months. Will the new keyboard with my old laptop for now.

Similar to what was/still is used to sign into your earlier generation Iphone or IPAD. The magic keyboard features a dedicated button for (fingerprint), touch-ID sign in. Saves you having to type in your ID. I am using it right now. Not cheap, about $179 and not ever discounted. For me it was worth it. These new M1 Mini's can also be signed in using certain Apple Watches.

Thank you!

I am also looking for a keyboard, probably will go for SATECHI Compact Backlit Bluetooth Keyboard – Wireless Bluetooth 5.0 & Multi-Device, usb-c charging, no batteries!
Maybe somebody has experience with it?

A key on the keyboard that unlocks the computer and lets you into apps like 1Password by just touching the key. Works much like the old home button on the iPhone and iPad. The newer MBPs include TouchID but the new keyboard can be handy if using in clamshell mode with an external display.

is there anything thing like a fall or surge to the MacBook pro that stopped the keyboard to work?
the fix is a new ribbon cable or fixing the ends of the cable.
these MacBook are fixable

just typing.....
