How would you assign a shortcut to a specific menu item shortcut. For example there are 2 or 3 menu items with the same name, let's call it 'increase.'

I dug up a forum where someone mentioned _"If you describe the full 'menu path' using '->' as a delimiter between items (no spaces), then OS X will follow that path and select the correct menu item."_

Using -> as a delimiter doesn't work in Keyboard Shortcuts. How do you tell the OS which menu item you want to select with a shortcut?

Which OS version are you using? Supposedly you use '>' instead for versions older than 10.8 or 10.7.

Are you entering the keyboard shortcut in the correct area?

It should look something like this:

I’m on 11.6.7. I solved the problem by installing an app called CustomShortcuts.

What was weird was that I tried using -> in Keyboard. Using the app it made a single character version of ‘->’. It wouldn’t appear in my clipboard or a text editor but it was visible in the app.
