Keyboard shortcuts and Google apps

Has anyone noticed that keyboard shortcuts do not work in Googles latest apps like Maps and Capture? I use eml as a shortcut for my email address and it doesn't work.

Anyone with iOS app dev knowledge know if this is a technical limitation or something Google is doing on purpose?
