Keyboard shortcuts stopped working

Backspace for delete mail in lion mail stopped working - all safari shortcuts - all shortcuts for other keyboard functions.
was still able to switch spaces with my set shortcuts though.

Restart seemed to fix it.

Anyone else has this problem?

Expect problems like that until apple can smooth everything out... if a restart fixed it then, it is likely just a one-off situation that was triggered by some weird sequence of events
