Keyboard shortcuts.... Why won't they work for me?

iPad Air, latest software.

Ok.... I don't get it. I setup some keyboard shortcuts and when I type the three character phrase the full shortcut text shows properly, just like when an auto correct suggestion shows( in blue text) but when I tap the text it just stays the three leter phrase.

Arrggggh? Am I missing something?

Do not tap the phrase. You are cancelling it every time you do. Simply press the space button and it will appear.

Ya know, I should have known that too because that's what ya do with regular typing! What a klutz.
