Hi all,
I've read through many of the keyboard/trackpad "freeze" issues including the one on the apple forum that recommends placing a piece of napkin between the keyboard wire and battery. I am pretty sure that mine is hardware related but I'm not exactly sure whether the problem is in the keyboard, the trackpad, the wire running between the keyboard/logic board, or the logic board itself.
Originally the keyboard/trackpad would flake out from time to time. The problem got worse and worse. Sometimes I would go days having to use an external keyboard/mouse. I ripped the battery out and pressed on the keyboard/trackpad wire undearneath with an eraser tip. This seemed to fix the problem. When the pressure was off they would both stop functioning. I applied a layer of tape to the battery to create this pressure without the eraser tip and this worked for a day or two but it's back to non functional again. I should add that the keyboard backlighting works.
Based on what I described can anyone wager a guess as to whether it's the trackpad/keyboard, logic board, or wire causing the issue? I'm not willing to replace the logic board but I would be willing to shell out money for a new keyboard. I'd rather not spend 60 - 100 bucks though and find out that the problem hasn't been solved.
The computer is not under warranty.
I'm pretty dissapointed with this machine but if I can limp it along until revision 2 of the AIR that would be great.
