I wanted to adjust the hinges on a 2009 MBP 17 I bought recently as the lid was slightly misaligned, which seemed to go fine, however switching it back on, the keyboard is now malfunctioning - only a few of the keys are working at all, but even those are not necessarily printing the key that they should be.

In the process, I did take the little metal cover where the keyboard ribbon connects to the motherboard off but I did not touch the connector itself below (I was looking for the battery connector under there, but soon realised the battery actually connects to the bottom of the motherboard nearby). I was thinking perhaps something got nudged or dislodged despite being very careful not to, so I went back and removed the keyboard ribbon and reseated it, but there is no improvement - the keyboard is still scrambled.

Can anyone recommend a course of action here?
