i have a keyboard with two usb plugs in the back. i use one for my mouse, then run the keyboard's connection into my computer. the mouse works fine, but the keys don't work at all [i'm using keyboard viewer to type now]. i plugged my 60gb external hard drive into it a few times this week, could that have something to do with it. any suggestions. thanks.

update- i just plugged my keyboard in and it 'pushed buttons' on it's own. it held down the command keys, arrow keys, f12, etc.

My goodness that post must've taken a long time to write out using Keyboard Viewer.

Have you spilled something on the keyboard? Sounds like you have a bunch of keys sticking, which would prevent the input from being recognized.

What kind of keyboard is it? One of the Apple keyboards?

Ah, those are easy. You'll need a hex key to remove the screws on the back, then take bits out until you get to the two plastic membranes. Wipe them off thoroughly with a wet cloth, allow them to dry, then reassemble.

Sorry I can't be more specific, I haven't done it in a while.

New

Well I ended up having to get a new keyboard! Mine got totally screwed. I cleaned it up and let it dry, and when I used it the keys didn't stick BUT.. say I pressed 'Y'... I would get a Y and a 6 showing up on the screen. It was like that for most of the buttons. UGH! Such a hassle. But thanks for your help.
