Keychain for password storage.

Hi everyone. I use a Mac computer and an iPhone 11 for my business and personal use. I have about 60 different things that I have to log into and I want to start using more secure passwords.

I was thinking about using one of those password storage programs like Lastpass, but then I remembered Apple has Keychain.

Can I use Keychain to store all of the different passwords I need to get into all the websites that I use? Will it automatically sync between my computer on my phone?

Or is it better to use an outside program like Lastpass?

Yes. The passwords will sync via iCloud as long as you have that option turned on. However, both the Lastpass app and 1Password app are also very good to use but not free.

Does Keychain have any disadvantages? Is it OK that I use Chrome in both my iPhone and Mac computer?

I use Safari on my iOS devices and can verify that the keychain info syncs from my Mac okay as long as that option is selected under iCloud. I do not know if the same is true with Chrome. Keychain works fine and will even suggest passwords for you. Keep in mind that Keychain does not offer the same options as Lastpass or 1Password.

I found that Keychain won't work with Chrome, so I guess I have to use one of the others.

I use Keychain but formerly used 1Password. They both offer things like storing your credit card numbers and other private data. You can find out more by going to their websites. 1Password has gone to a subscription model. Lastpass is now free for personal use and might be better depending on your usage:

Since I use chrome on both my computer and iPhone, would it be advisable to use Chrome to enter all my passwords? Is it trustworthy?

Chrome works fine with passwords and it can be trusted. I use Chrome in addition to Safari on my iMac so I know that it works. I do not use Chrome on my iPhone or iPad Pro so I can't tell you if it syncs passwords. Okay.... I just did some searching and it appears that Chrome will only sync passwords between your Mac and Android device.

It looks like you would need to use Safari if you want to sync passwords from the Keychain on your Mac to your iPhone. If you really like using Chrome, give Lastpass a try.

1Password added a subscription model, you can still buy an individual licens from them.

I read a few articles that advise against using browsers to store passwords. I wish I kept them for the reasoning.

Keychain has no utility for Windows, android or Linux, so if you care about cross platform keychain is a non-starter.

If you don't, its UI is a bit clunkier than something like 1password, but its free so...

I prefer the UI, I like that there are windows and android UIs for it, I like that there is more customisability over password generation and that it reports password reuse and sites that have been breached.
