Keynote and Apple Remote

Hello all ;

I have a Early 2011 and a Retina Display Macbook Pro and a Apple TV. I have done a keynote presentation and while I am doing my presentation I would like to use the Apple Remote. As I have learned the Retina MBP does not accept the Apple Remote for keynote. Can I use it on my Early 2011 MBP and how ?
