Keynote and external display

I got my ipad today and hooked it up using component cables to my tv an ran keynote. The problem I have is that it doesn't mirror the slides. It shoes only on the tv and just has a box that says 1 out of 16 slides and click here to advance. I rarely am facing a projector screen or tv when I give a keynote presentation. Is there a way to make it disay slides on external monitor AND. The ipad

im still confused on how one goes about transferring your keynotes or pages files to the ipad from your computer

Hook up your ipad to the computer, open itunes. On the apps tab of the ipad scroll to the bottom. It should have a deal about the following apps have file sharing capabilities and keynote should be listed. Anything you have made on the ipad AND exported from the keynote app, will appear in this and you can copy it over to your desktop.

I talked with apple rep and merely mirroring the image of keynote maintaining slides on both displays is NOT possible.
